Iberia Airlines Unaccompanied Minors Policy

Per Iberia Airlines Unaccompanied Minors policy, children between 5 – 11 years (inclusive) can travel alone as Unaccompanied Minors on flights operated by Iberia, Iberia Express, and Iberia Regional Air Nostrum—but only in the company of an Iberia personnel.

Per Iberia Airlines Unaccompanied Minors policy:

  • Children below 5 years are not permitted to travel alone—they must be accompanied by a passenger who is at least 18 years old.
  • The Unaccompanied Minor Service is optional for Young Flyers, i.e., children between 12 – 17 years (inclusive).
  • How to book Iberia Airlines’ Unaccompanied Minors Service
    Iberia Airlines Unaccompanied Minors policy states that passengers can request the Unaccompanied Minor service:
    • Online up to 72 hours before departure (select countries).
    • By phone up to 48 hours before departure. 
    • At the airport in person less than 24 hours before departure.

Note. If departing from London (Heathrow Terminal 5), request at least 48 hours before departure.

  • The Unaccompanied Minor’s parent or responsible adult guardianmust:
    • Fill out, sign, and submit a Release of Liability Form.
    • Provide the name, address, and phone number of the adult guardian who will be accompanying the minor to the departure airport. 
    • Provide the name, address, and phone number of the adult guardian who will be picking up the minor at the destination city.
  • Regardless of age, all minors (unaccompanied and accompanied) must carry:
    • A valid passport or national ID card. 
    • An authorized-by-police consent if traveling alone.
    • Any other documentation required in the destination country, such as passport, visa, health certificate, etc.
  • Guidelines for Unaccompanied Minors
    Iberia Airlines Unaccompanied Minors policy requires that the child’s parent or responsible adult guardian must:
    • Reach the airport well in advance (at least 2.5 hours before departure) to complete the documentation procedure. 
    • Remain at the airport till the flight takes off. 

Note. Companion service for flight connections is available only via Madrid.

  • Restrictions
    Per Iberia Airlines Unaccompanied Minors policy:
    • Reservations will not be accepted if the following codeshare flights are a part of the itinerary:
      • IB7XXX Latam Airlines flights
      • Iberia Express 
      • Iberia Regional Air Nostrum 
    • Unaccompanied Minors will not be accepted on the following flights:
      • British Airways flights
      • IB5XXX flights operated by Vueling
        (unless the under-12 child is accompanied by an adult) 
      • IB26XX flights operated by Iberia for LEVEL
        (unless the under-14 child is accompanied by a passenger aged at least 16 years)
      • IB4XXX and IB7XXX flights minors
        (unless the under-15 child is accompanied by a passenger aged at least 18 years).
  • Iberia Airlines Unaccompanied Minors policy allows family members/legal guardians to enter the boarding area at select airports after collecting a Companions Card from a check-in counter. The family member/legal guardian must carry a valid national ID or passport when accompanying the child.
  • Country-specific requirements for Unaccompanied Minors on Iberia Airlines
    Per Iberia Airlines Unaccompanied Minors policy, the parent or adult guardian must ensure all country-specific regulations be met before traveling.
    • The United States. Children up to 14 years old are considered unaccompanied minors in the United States, so the service is mandatory for them if flying within this sector. 
    • Spain. If your child is studying abroad, fill out the Descargo de Responsabilidad Obligatorio and ask the school to sign and stamp it, especially if your child is departing from Boston or London. 
    • Mexico. Minors traveling alone to/from Mexico, or accompanied by a non-parent or non-legal guardian, must carry a document—either signed by both parents or by the parent with legal custody or guardianship—before a recognized authority or notary attesting that the child can leave the country. If the document is issued abroad, it must be apostilled or authorized and translated if it is not in Spanish. If traveling to/from Spain, the local police there can provide a document of authorization for such cases.
    • Italy. Under-14 children traveling out of Italy:
      • Must be accompanied by an adult who is at least 18 years old.
      • Must carry a passport.
    • Must carry a sworn and signed statement by both parents/legal guardian. The statement must include the airline’s name in which the child is traveling and it must be authenticated by the police.
