  • According to LATAM flight cancellation policy:
    • Promo fares cannot be cancelled. 
    • Flex fares can be cancelled and refunded without a cancellation fee.
    • Control fares can be cancelled and refunded for a fee (or changed).
    • Access and Base fares have additional restrictions on cancellations (or changes).
  • LATAM Airlines cancellation policy for tickets/EMDs issued in the U.S. allows you to cancel and refund any ticket fully within 24 hours of purchase as long as it is purchased 7 or more days before departure.
  • LATAM Airlines’ cancellation policy for domestic flightswithin Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, and Chile is as follows:
    • The following fares cannot be cancelled or refunded after purchase: Economy Basic, Economy Light.
    • The following fares can be cancelled and refunded for a fee before or after departure: Economy Plus, Economy Top, Premium Economy. 
    • The following fares can be cancelled and refunded without any cancellation fee before and after departure: Premium Economy Top fares
  • LATAM cancellation policy for Colombia. Under the Right of withdrawal policy, if you purchase a ticket online through LATAM’s website, App, or Contact Center, you can cancel your ticket (through LATAM’s Contact Center) within 5 days of purchase as long as:
    • Your flight does not depart within this timeframe, and  
    • You request a refund at least 24 hours prior to your flight’s departure, and
    • You have not purchased a promotional fare 

(you may be charged a 10% cancellation fee toward the value of your fare)

  • The cancellation policy for Chile. Under Chile’s Right of withdrawal policy, you can request a refund for a trip entirely within Chile (except for Promotional fares) if you purchase a ticket:
    • At least 7 working days before the first flight’s departure and cancel it within 48 hours of purchase, or 
    • At least 180 days before the first flight’s departure and cancel it within 7 days of purchase 

Note. You can request the refund through LATAM’s sales offices, authorized agencies, call centers, or online by creating a case and entering all the required information in the Refund of tickets due to retraction category. You may be charged a 10% cancellation fee. 

  • Peru and Ecuador. Under the 619 Normative, ticket purchases (except Promotional fares) can be cancelled at least 72 hours before departure for a 10% cancellation fee. To cancel your ticket and obtain a refund, you will need to get in touch with LATAM’s Contact Center.
  • Tickets purchased in Brazil and Colombia provide a free 24-hour cancellation service. If you purchased your ticket in Brazil or Colombia, you can cancel it within 24 hours of purchase by phone through LATAM’s contact center. However, tickets purchased in Brazil must have been issued 7 or more days before the scheduled departure date.
  • LATAM cancellation policy for tickets and ancillary products purchased in Israel (IATA) via non-contact channels allows you to cancel and fully refund any ticket within 14 days of purchase but at least 7 days before departure, regardless of where you request the refund from. This complies with Israel Consumer Protection Law 5776-2016.
  • LATAM AIrlines cancellation policy for tickets purchased from travel agencies and third parties requires that third-parties ticket purchases must be cancelled directly through the ticket-issuing authority, as different cancellation rules may apply.
  • You can learn about the cancellation and refund conditions of your ticket through the ticket confirmation email sent to you after you purchased your ticket or online via My Trips > Manage your trips, where you’ll be able to view all the conditions for ticket returns. 
  • You can request a ticket refund till your ticket is valid. If you’re unable to travel, you must request a refund before your travel date online via My Trips or by phone (incl. post-departure for the latter). 
  • LATAM’s cancelled flight refund policy. If LATAM cancels your flight, you have the option to:
    • Accept the alternative option offered to you, or
    • Choose a new flight date free of charge to the same destination and in the same travel class. The new flight date can be anytime within 12 months from the date of purchase of your first flight for the flight(s) not taken, or
    • Change your flight route (depending on your fare) by paying the fare difference
      (you can make the change by phone but not online) 
    • Ask for a full refund of your ticket if you don’t wish to travel
      (online via My Trips > Ticket Refund or by phone)
  • You may be entitled to a full refundsolely at LATAM’s discretion if you’re unable to travel due to unexpected events such as medical reasons, death, the expiration of travel documents, or purchase errors. However, you must:
    • Immediately notify LATAM before your flight’s departure, and
    • Present proper documentary proof such as a medical or death certificate, etc. 

LATAM 24-Hour Cancellation Policy

Depending on where you purchased your ticket from, LATAM’s 24-hour cancellations apply to the following regions: 

  1. Tickets and EMDs issued in the United States
  2. Tickets purchased in Brazil or Colombia

LATAM’s 24-hour cancellation policy for the U.S. According to the D.O.T. USA Regulations, all tickets and EMDs issued in the United States can be cancelled within 24 hours of booking if they are purchased at least 7 days prior to departure.

LATAM 24-hour cancellation policy for Brazil or Colombia. Under this policy, tickets purchased in Brazil or Colombia allow free cancellations within 24 hours of purchase. However, tickets purchased in Brazil should have been booked at least 7 days before departure. 

How to Cancel a Latam Flight?

You can cancel a flight on LATAM: 

  1. Online via My Trips 
  2. Over the phone 
  3. Through the travel agent/third party you purchased your ticket from
  4. At one of LATAM’s contact centers
  5. At the airport counter

Note

  • Any payment made for bags or seats will be refunded to your LATAM Wallet post-cancellation. 
  • To cancel a ticket booked through a third party/travel agent, contact the third-party/agent directly to request a refund. 
  • To cancel extra options like hotel accommodation and car rentals, you will need to get in touch with the provider directly. 

Cancel LATAM Flight Online

You can cancel your flight online if your ticket’s fare conditions permit it. 

To cancel your flight online with LATAM: 

  1. Go to LATAMAirlines.com
  2. From the My Trips dropdown, choose Manage your trips

    1. Reservation code/order number and your last name
  2. Hit Search 
  3. Choose the flight you want to cancel
  4. Follow the prompts to cancel your flight 

LATAM will send you a confirmation email confirming the flight cancellation, along with details of the cancellation fee charged, if any. 

LATAM Cancel Flight by Phone

Canceling a flight on LATAM by phone is a straightforward process. To begin, gather all the necessary information, such as your booking details (reservation code/order number) and relevant identification documents. Then call the customer service number and choose LATAM to connect with a representative. Once connected, explain your situation and request to cancel your flight. The representative will guide you through the cancellation process, which may include providing them with your booking details and ID. Be sure to ask about any applicable fees or refund policies before confirming the cancellation. Once the cancellation is processed, make note of any confirmation numbers or reference codes provided by the representative for future reference. By following these steps and utilizing LATAM’s customer service team, cancelling a flight over the phone can be a hassle-free experience.

LATAM Refund Policy

What is LATAM Airlines refund policy?

  • Refunds can be requested online via My Trips or by phone
  • You can check the refund conditions of your ticket from the confirmation email you received after purchasing your ticket.
    • Refunds of tickets purchased with LATAM Pass miles/points will be in the form of credits miles/points to your LATAM Pass account, and the cash component will be credited to your LATAM Wallet. However, they must be used within 60 days to purchase any service. 
    • For tickets including payments for bags and seats, the refund will be made to your LATAM Wallet after you’ve made your refund request. 
    • Refunds of tickets purchased from travel agencies must be requested directly through the agency. 
    • To cancel and refund extras such as car rentals and hotel accommodation, you must contact the provider directly. 
  • Refunds will be made through the original payment method within 7 business days of your making the request (7 natural days for Brazil). However, the time taken for the refund to reflect in your account could be longer. 
  • If LATAM is unable to refund to your original payment method, the refund will be made to your LATAM Wallet, which is created automatically when you log in or register with LATAM. 
  • You can use your LATAM Wallet to purchase LATAM services and products or transfer the money to your bank account within 3 – 7 days. 
  • LATAM will notify you of your refund status by email.
  • Unused airport taxes are always refundable. 
  • How to request a refund. LATAM Airlines refund requests for tickets purchased with money, points, or LATAM Miles through LATAM’s website, app, sales offices, or contact centers can be made online through your account via My Trips > Ticket Refund or by phone. If you don’t log in to your account, you will need to access your booking via My Trips with your order number/reservation code and last name/email used for purchasing your ticket and then follow the prompts to cancel your ticket. Tickets purchased from travel agencies can only be refunded through the respective agency. 
  • If your journey hasn’t started and you don’t want to travel, you have the right to a refund depending on the fare conditions of your ticket for your country as explained above (the United States, Chile, Colombia, Brazil, Israel, Peru, Ecuador, etc.). 
  • If you’re unable to travel after purchasing a ticket, you’re entitled to a refund of your boarding fee even if your ticket cannot be refunded. You can place the refund request online via My Trips from the section titled Boarding Fee Refunds.
  • There’s no fixed cancellation fee/penalty (by route) for domestic and international flights. The cancellation fee/refund penalty is a percentage of the fare component plus a surcharge.  

LATAM refunds within 24 hours of purchase. LATAM allows you to cancel your ticket within 24 hours of purchase through the Contact Center for tickets issued in the United States or Brazil, provided the ticket is purchased at least 7 days before departure. 

LATAM Airlines Cancellation Fee

LATAM Airlines cancellation fee will depend on what type of ticket you’ve purchased, your route, and the circumstances surrounding the cancellation. For example, you will not be charged any cancellation fee if:

  • You cancel a ticket issued in the U.S. or Brazil within the free 24-hour window, provided you purchased it at least 7 days before departure, or
  • You cancel a Flex (Premium Economy Top) fare before or after departure, or
  • Your ticket qualifies for free cancellation under the laws of Colombia, Chile, Israel, Peru, or Ecuador, as explained above, or
  • You’re unable to travel due to medical reasons, bereavement, the expiry of your travel documents, purchase errors, etc., provided you notify LATAM before departure and LATAM agrees to your request. Alternatively, you may be allowed to make changes to your flight and travel later without penalty, or 
  • If LATAM cancels your flight and you don’t want to travel as a result of the cancellation

For the most part, the cancellation fee for domestic and international flights is not fixed—it is a percentage of the fare paid by you plus a surcharge, depending on your route. 

For example, the cancellation fee for flights to or from South Korea is:

  • NIL for cancellations made at least 91 days before departure
  • 15% of the fare for cancellations made 90 to 31 days before departure
  • 29% of the fare for cancellations made 30 or fewer days before departure

LATAM Cancelled Flight Compensation

A cancelled flight can throw your travel plans into disarray and leave you feeling stranded and helpless. But did you know that you may be entitled to compensation if your flight with LATAM Airlines was cancelled? This section explores your rights as a passenger, the circumstances under which you may be eligible for compensation, and how to go about claiming it. 

  • Cancelled Flight Compensation for Domestic U.S. Flights. If your flight is within the United States, the laws do not require the airline to financially compensate passengers for delayed or cancelled flights. However, if you’re bumped from an oversold flight, you’re entitled to file a claim for expenses under Article 19 of the Montreal Convention by filing a claim with LATAM. 
  • Cancelled Flight Compensation for Delayed and Cancelled Flights under European Parliament’s Regulation (EC) No. 261/2004. If your flight departing from an airport in the European Union is cancelled, or delayed by more than 5 hours, or you’re involuntarily denied boarding, you are entitled to financial compensation of:
    • EUR 250 for flights within 1500km
    • EUR 400 for intra-Community flights exceeding 1500km 
    • EUR 400 for non-intra-Community flights between 1500 – 3500km
    • EUR 600 for flights not covered above 

Reduction in compensation. Your compensation will be reduced by 50% if you’re offered a substitute flight with an arrival time that is:

  • Within 2 hours for flights within 1500km, or
  • Within 3 hours for intra-Community flights exceeding 1500km and other flights between 1500 – 3500 km, or
  • Within 4 hours for flights not falling covered above 

Mode of compensation. You will receive the compensation in cash, by ordinary or electronic bank transfer, check, or, if you agree, as travel vouchers.

How to claim compensation. To claim compensation, you must ask a LATAM agent at the airport for the compensation form.

Exception. You will not be entitled to any financial compensation if:

  • Your flight is cancelled or delayed due to extraordinary circumstances that could not have been avoided by LATAM, such as bad weather, ATC/airport union strikes, etc.
  • You’re travelling on a reduced/Promo fare.
  • You did not check in on time for your flight.
  • You are notified about the cancellation at least 14 days before the scheduled departure time of your flight, or
  • You are informed of the cancellation 14 – 7 days before the scheduled departure time of your flight and offered a substitute flight that allows you to depart within 2 hours before the scheduled departure time of your original flight and reach your final destination within 4 hours after its scheduled arrival time, or
  • You are informed of the cancellation within 7 days of the scheduled departure time of your flight and offered a substitute flight that allows you to depart within 1 hour before the scheduled departure time of your original flight and reach your final destination within 2 hours after its scheduled arrival time.

Some fares may have no cancellation fees (as indicated in the answer above), while others may have fees (as a percentage of your total fare) depending on your flight route.

Can I make changes to my flight instead of cancelling it? 

In most cases, yes, you can make changes to your flight instead of cancelling it. However, a change fee and fare differences will apply.

What happens if my flight is cancelled by LATAM?
