WestJet Flight Change Policy

Regardless of what type of ticket you’ve purchased, you have up to 24 hours from the time of purchase to make changes to your reservation without being charged a flight change fee. WestJet flight change policy in other scenarios—such as for flights affected by specific dates, travel advisories, etc.—is as follows:

• WestJet Flight Change Policy for Flights Booked from March 3, 2020 – Jan, 2023

• You’re allowed a one-time change fee waiver for any flight booked between March 3, 2020, and Jan, 2023. However, Basic fare tickets will not be eligible for a one-time change fee waiver after Jan, 2022.
• You must request the flight change at least 24 hours before departure. 
• If you make any changes to your flight, you must pay the applicable fare difference. If the new fare is cheaper, the difference will be remitted in the form of a Travel Credit for future use. 
• If you make any within 24 hours of departure, you will be charged the standard flight change fee. 
• If you booked your ticket through a travel agent or another airline, contact them directly to process your flight change request. 

• WestJet Flight Change Policy for Flights Impacted by a Travel Advisory

If your travel plans are interrupted by a travel advisory relating to extreme weather, airport closure, or a disease outbreak, WestJet will waive the flight change fee until normal operations resume—and offer the following options to you:

• Change your flight dates to and/or from the same destination without paying the fare difference (but blackout dates may apply).
• Change your destination with or without changing your flight dates.
  • You will not have to pay any fare difference if your new destination is near the original destination (Vancouver instead of Abbotsford).
  • You will have to pay the fare difference if your new destination is located far away from your original destination.
  • If your new fare is cheaper, the refund rules for your fare type will apply. 
• Cancel your flight and receive a refund per the applicable refund rules for your fare type.
  
• WestJet 24-Hour Flight Change Policy
  You can change your flight booking within 24 hours for no fee 

WestJet offers you a free 24-hour window from the time you purchase your ticket to make changes to your flight booking (or cancel it) for no fee, provided you purchase your ticket at least 24 hours before departure.

This means if you purchase a flight ticket at least 24 hours before departure, you can change your flight time/date and/or destination within 24 hours of purchasing your ticket without having to pay any flight change fee. If your new ticket is costlier, you will have to pay the fare difference. If the new ticket is cheaper, the balance amount will be refunded.

• WestJet Flight Change Policy after 24 Hours 

You cannot make any changes to a Basic fare after 24 hours of booking (or cancel it after 24 hours). For other fares, a flight change fee may apply, depending on what type of ticket you’ve purchased.

You can make changes to the following fares without being charged a flight change fee, but you’ll have to pay the applicable difference in fares: 

• PremiumFlex and BusinessFlex fares (all routes) 
• EconoFlex fare (within Canada)
  

WestJet Flight Change Cost/Fees/Penalty

How much does it cost to change a WestJet flight?

The flight change cost/fees/penalty incurred by you will depend on your fare type, route, and when you’re making the changes (more than 60 days or less than 60 days before departure).

• You can make changes to any flight ticket within 24 hours of purchase without being charged a flight change fee, as long as your flight’s departure time (at the time of purchase) is at least 24 hours later. 
• There is no flight change fee for the following fares, but the difference in fares will apply:
  • PremiumFlex and BusinessFlex fares—all routes.
  • Econo Flex fares—within Canada.
• You can make changes to all fares (excluding Basic fares) up to 2 hours before departure, subject to the applicable flight change fee/penalty.
• If you don’t change or cancel your flight before departure, it will be treated as a No-Show, and the entire fare (except applicable taxes/surcharges) will be forfeited.

Flight Change Policy for Basic Tickets

As in case of flight cancellations, Basic fare tickets cannot be changed after the 24-hour window. 

Flight Change Policy for Econo Tickets

After the 24-hour window, Econo tickets can be changed for a fee. The difference in fares will apply, however. The flight change cost will depend on your route and when you’re making the changes—more than 60 days before departure (cheaper) or within 60 days of departure (costlier), as shown in the table above.

Flight Change Policy for Econo Flex Tickets

Econo Flex tickets within Canada can be changed without any additional fees but will incur a fee on other routes. However, you must pay the applicable fare difference. The flight change cost will depend on your route and when you’re making the changes—more than 60 days before departure (cheaper) or within 60 days of departure (costlier), as shown in the table above.

Flight Change Policy for Premium Tickets

Premium Tickets can be changed for a fee, but PremiumFlex tickets can be changed without any additional fee on all routes. However, the difference in fares must be paid. The flight change cost will depend on your route and when you’re making the changes—more than 60 days before departure (cheaper) or within 60 days of departure (costlier), as shown in the table above.

Flight Change Policy for Business Tickets

Business tickets also incur a flight change fee, except BusinessFlex tickets which can be changed for no fee on any route. You will, however, have to pay the fare difference. The flight change cost will depend on your route and when you’re making the changes—more than 60 days before departure (cheaper) or within 60 days of departure (costlier), as shown in the table above.

Flight Change Policy for Award Tickets

The flight change fee for award tickets will depend on what type of ticket you’ve booked with your Travel Bank funds. If your new flight is costlier, you will have to pay the fare difference, and if it’s cheaper, the balance will be credited to your account. 

Flight Change Fees for Same-Day Flight Changes

WestJet allows same-day flight changes for all types of tickets except Basic fare tickets. The same-day flight change cost will depend on your destination and what type of ticket you’ve purchased, as shown below.

How to Change a Flight on WestJet

You can make changes to your WestJet flight:

1. By phone
2. Online through Manage trips
   (if you booked your ticket directly through WestJet)
3. Through your travel agent 

How to Change Your WestJet Flight Online

To change your flight date, flight time, and/or flight destination online:

1. Go to WestJet.com
2. Click on Manage trips
   The following dropdown box will show up:

4. Access your trip by entering:
   1. Your reservation code
   2. Your last name
5. Hit the Search button
   Your flight details will appear on your screen
6. Follow the prompts to:
   1. Select your flight
   2. Change your flight time/date/destination
7. Pay the fare difference (if any)

You will receive your new ticket at the email address you provided at the time of booking. 
Note. If you booked your ticket through a third party such as a travel agent, you will need to contact them directly to request the changes.
