  3. Click on the Continue button

How to Check Air New Zealand Flight Status 

You can check your Air New Zealand flight status either by calling Air New Zealand’s office in your city/airport or online through Air New Zealand’s website.

To check your Air New Zealand flight status online:

  • Go to AirNewZealand.com/arrivals-and-departures
    The Arrivals and departures page will open by default
  • Select by:
    • Arrivals into (opens by default)
    • Departures from (by clicking on the option)
  • From the dropdown, select the arrival/departure city

You can make changes to your flight booking by phone or by contacting the call center or local office in your city/country, or online through Air New Zealand’s website/mobile app. 

How to Manage Your Air New Zealand Ticket Booking Online

Air New Zealand’s Manage booking is a useful functionality that allows you to make changes to your flight booking and purchase extras online via the website or mobile app. The Manage booking functionality allows you to:

  • View your flight bookings
  • Change your flight
    • Choose a different time
    • Change your flight date
    • Change your flight destination 
  • Cancel your flight
  • Purchase extra baggage

    • Select your preferred seat

Note

  • After you sign in, you’ll be shown the changes you can make. 
  • For changes that incur an extra cost, the charges will be indicated. 
  • Some options may not be available for your flight.
  • If you’ve booked a Flexi Fare, you will have more options available, especially if you make the changes on the day before your flight.

To manage your Air New Zealand flight booking online:

  1. Go to the homepage, AirNewZealand.com
  2. Click on the Manage booking tab
    (it appears on the top menu bar as well as lower on the page)
  3. On the page/section that opens, enter your:

      (appears on your receipt and e-ticket) 
    2. Family name
      (must be the same as that used in your original flight booking)
  4. Click on the Continue button

Note

You will not be able to manage your booking online if:

  • You booked your ticket through a travel agent or a different airline
    (in which you will need to contact them directly)

  • You purchased a booking with a promo code

Air New Zealand Group Bookings

You can apply for a group booking by phone or online

If you’re travelling in a group of 10 or more adult passengers, you can apply for a group booking by phone or online by filling out the enquiry form.

  • If you fill out the online enquiry form, be sure to fill out the forms marked with an asterisk (*). Once you’ve submitted the online form, you will receive a response from Air New Zealand within 72 hours.
  • If you make a group booking by phone, you will receive an instant quote and you will be able to book your ticket immediately.

Air New Zealand Fare Hold

The Fare Hold option at Air New Zealand allows you to reserve the fare for your itinerary at a specifically displayed price for up to 3 days for a small fee and pay for it later after you’ve firmed up your travel plans. After paying the Fare Hold fee (see below), you will have 3 days to confirm your booking by paying up the full fare. If you change your mind and don’t want to book the flights, your flight booking will be automatically cancelled and the fee forfeited unless you’ve booked a fare from/to the United States and clause #7 of the Terms and Conditions (below) applies to your case.

How Fare Hold Works

  1. Choose your flight online via AirNewZealand.com
  2. If your itinerary qualifies for Fare Hold, the option will appear on a Hold this fare button at the bottom of the Select your flights page. Click on this button to hold your fare(s).
  3. Fill out the details on the Fare Hold page and pay the fee.
  4. You’ll receive a Fare Hold confirmation email, with a booking reference and a link to your booking.
  5. Your itinerary will be reserved for you for 3 days at the same price.
  6. To proceed with your booking within the 3-day period, click on the link in your confirmation email, enter the passenger details, and pay for your flight/flights. If you don’t want to complete your booking, do nothing and let your booking lapse.

Note

  • The Fare Hold fee applies per booking and does not vary with the number of passengers in your booking. 
  • You cannot change your flight/flights or the number of passengers, but you can change the passenger name when you return to complete your booking. 
  • After you complete your flight booking, you can make changes to your flight per the applicable fare rules and fees.

Fare Hold Terms and Conditions

  1. Fare Hold applies only to some flights that are booked online at least 21 days before departure through Air New Zealand’s website. 
  2. The Fare Hold option is not available for:
    • Works Deluxe fares
    • Fares containing/requiring promo codes on Domestic, Pacific Island, or Tasman fares.
  3. After paying the Fare Hold fee, you’ve not allowed to make any changes to your flight. But after completing your booking, you can make date changes according to the fare rules that apply to your ticket, and additional fees may apply.
  4. Your Reserved Fare will be held for you for 3 calendar days (up to 11.59pm) from the time you pay the Fare Hold fee (applicable to the country and website of purchase). Your booking will be automatically cancelled if you do not pay within the 3-day time period. 
  5. You can confirm and pay your Reserved Fare any time during the Reserved Period:
    • Through the link that appears in the Fare Hold confirmation email sent to you. 
    • By retrieving your flight booking on your Air New Zealand account.
    • By retrieving your booking via the Manage booking section on AirNewZealand.com. 
  6. You cannot make any changes to a Reserved Fare during the 3-day period. If you want to make any changes, you must either let your booking lapse or cancel it, and then make a new booking. The fee paid by you will be forfeited.
  7. For Reserved Fares to/from the United States, the Fare Hold fee can be refunded only if you cancel the Reserved Fare within 24 hours of paying the Fare Hold fee. After 24 hours, the Fare Hold fee cannot be refunded, even if you cancel the Reserved Fare. To cancel a Reserved Fare within 24 hours and get your Fare Hold fee refunded, you must contact Air New Zealand (or the office in your city/country) and provide your booking reference number.

How to Book Air New Zealand with Points

You can book Air New Zealand flights with Airpoints (also known as Airpoints Dollars, APDs) in any of the following ways:

  1. Online. Just sign in to your account from the airline’s homepage. You must have your Airpoints number/username/email and password ready before or when booking your flight. After booking your flight, select to pay with Airpoints Dollars on the payment page. 
  2. By phone. Call Air New Zealand and provide your Airpoints membership number when you book your flight.
  3. Through a travel agent. Call your travel agent and provide your Airpoints number when booking your flight.

  • A Skycouch measures 61in in length with the window-side armrest up and 29in wide with cushion and leg rests. 
  • Skycouch seats are located in the Economy cabin of all 777 and 787-9 aircraft and vary by aircraft.

Premium Economy

Premium Economy seats are available on all Boeing 777-300 and 787-9 long-haul flights by Air New Zealand. They include all international flights, except flights between any of the following two countries: Australia, New Zealand, Bali, Honolulu, South Pacific Islands.

Air New Zealand Seat Booking

You can select your seat in the following ways:

  • By phone (a service fee will apply)
  • When booking your ticket online 
  • After booking your ticket via Manage booking 
  • Via seatselect by signing in to your Air New Zealand account 

You may be able to select a Standard Seat for free as part of your fare or Airpoints status. To select a different seating option (or this option is not available), you can purchase a seat using the seat select option for a fee. 

When can I select a seat?

You can purchase a seat via seatselect at the time of booking your ticket—but no later than 3 hours before departure for international flights and up to 30 minutes before departure for domestic flights. 

  • If you’re purchasing your seat with Airpoints Dollars (APDs), you must do it at the time of booking. 
  • If you don’t select a seat, you’ll be allotted one for free when you air new zealand check in.

Air New Zealand Seating Options

  • Standard Seat  
    • If you’re holding an Elite, Gold, Elite Partner, or Koru membership status, check the section below.
    • A Standard Seat is included in your fare if you’re travelling on the Works or Works deluxe fare to the Tasman or Islands, or on a Flexi change/Flexi refund fare on a domestic flight. 
    • If you’re flying on a domestic New Zealand, Tasman and Islands flight on a seat only or seat+bag fare, you can select your seat in advance via paid seat select.
    • If you’re taking a long-haul international flight, a standard seat may be included in your fare. If not, you can purchase in advance via paid seat select.
    • You’re allowed to change your seat to one of the same/lower value whenever you want. 
    • If you don’t select your Standard Seat in advance, you will be allotted a seat when you check in. On long-haul international flights, you can book a Standard Seat free of charge (if available) when online check-in opens 24 hours before departure.
  • Preferred Seat
    • Preferred Seats are located in preferred spots on the aircraft and mostly come with extra legroom.
  • Exit Row Seat
    • Exit Row Seats offer extra space in the front for stretching out. 
    • If there’s an emergency, you may have to activate the exit door. This means you must meet all the Civil Aviation/regulatory authority’s safety requirements, and:
      • Be at least 15 years old
      • Understand English properly
      • Follow the instructions from the crew
      • Be physically fit and willing to help 
      • Be free of physical disability or any condition that prevents you from performing an emergency exit function
      • Strong enough to open the exit door in case of an emergency
      • Confirm that you meet these requirements if you book an emergency row seat
      • Be ready to be assessed at check-in, the departure gate, or after you’ve boarded the flight
  • Bassinet Row Seats
    • You can purchase bassinet seating (subject to availability) if you’re travelling with an infant. 
    • Such seats have bassinet fittings that can be used by infants who are up to 8 months old and weigh up to 26lb/11.8kg.
    • If you didn’t or couldn’t secure a Bassinet Seat at the time of booking, Air New Zealand will do its best to allot you one at the airport if it’s still available.
    • Bassinet Seats measure 29in (73.66cm) in length and 13.5in (34.29cm) in width.

Special Assistance for Passengers 

Air New Zealand offers special assistance to passengers who require it, as described below. You must book in advance (ideally at the time of booking your ticket) to ensure you receive the services you require. 

To book a special service or receive assistance, call on the call center in your city or your travel agent or do it online when purchasing your ticket, or later via Manage booking.

  • Passengers with disabilities
  • Use the special assistance request form inform Air New Zealand that you will need additional assistance.
  • You can book wheelchair services online or by phone. 
  • You can carry a personal wheelchair plus another chair (e.g. sports/shower) in the cargo compartment free of charge (even if it is disassembled and broken down into 2 or 3 pieces. However, if you’re carrying additional equipment, you will be charged for it. 
  • You must label your wheelchair with your name and address. 
  • If you’re carrying a battery-powered wheelchair, remember the following:
    • Battery-powered wheelchairs that cannot be fully collapsed may not be accommodated on smaller aircraft, so always check with Air New Zealand before booking or refer to the table below:

  • Be sure to protect a non-spillable battery’s terminals from a short circuit and attach it securely to the wheelchair/mobility aid. 
  • If your wheelchair/mobility aid is operated by a spillable battery, you must disconnect the terminals to protect against shortcircuiting, and stow the wheelchair/mobility aid in an upright position. If this is not possible, you must remove the battery and carry it in approved packaging. 
  • You must inform the check-in staff about the type of battery your wheelchair/mobility aid contains. 
  • To prevent accidents, remove the wheelchair’s joystick/controller from the wheelchair and carry it with you. 
  • Online wheelchair service codes include:
    • SSR WCHR, if you can walk short distances and can use the stairs to walk to your seat but require assistance getting to and from the aircraft. 
    • SSR WCHS, if you can walk short distances, such as to your seat once you’re on board but require assistance getting to or from the aircraft. 
    • SSR WCHC, if you can use a wheelchair but require your upper body to be manually lifted or require the use of an onboard aisle chair to get to/from your seat once you’re inside the aircraft. In such a scenario, you can choose from the following 5 options:
      • WCHC Self Reliant, if you completely rely on a wheelchair but can self-transfer yourself to an aircraft seat and wheelchair. You will be provided a lower-body lift by Air New Zealand if required. However, if you need help with eating, medical services onboard, or personal hygiene, you will need to travel with a safety assistant. 
      • WCHC With Safety Assistant, if you are completely immobile and are travelling with your own safety assistant. In this case, your safety assistant must be able to transfer you to/from your seat and meet all your onboard needs, such as personal hygiene, eating, medical services, etc.
      • WCHC No Safety Assistant, which is only available on direct flights to/from/through the United States, for passengers who are completely immobile and travelling without a safety assistant. This means you are completely wheelchair-dependent and are unable to self-transfer to an aircraft seat or your wheelchair. In such a scenario, Air New Zealand will help transfer you to your aircraft seat/wheelchair. However, you must be able to take care of yourself in case of an emergency. 
      • WCHC Non-Travelling Safety Assistant, which is available only on domestic flights within New Zealand for passengers who are completely immobile but can arrange for their own safety assistant at each airport. This option includes lifting assistance inside the aircraft but does not cover inflight assistance such as eating, personal hygiene, and medical services.
      • WCHC Eagle Lifting Device, if you are completely immobile and require a lifting device. This service can only be requested at select airports (for Jet Services) at Dunedin, Christchurch, Wellington, and Auckland. If you’re travelling from any other airport on non-Jet aircraft, you must travel with a safety assistant. Eagle Lifts can be provided with sufficient advance notice in Perth and Sydney.
  • If you’re travelling with a wheelchair/mobility aid powered by lithium/lithium-ion batteries, remember the following:
    • The permissible limit is 300Wh. If your wheelchair/mobility aid requires 2 batteries, the battery power must not exceed 160Wh per battery. 
    • Before you check in your wheelchair/mobility aid, be sure to remove the batteries that are designed to be removed and carry them with you in the passenger cabin. 
    • You must insulate the battery terminals to protect the batteries from damage and shortcircuits.
    • Non-removable batteries must be attached securely to the wheelchair/mobility aid and the terminals protected from any chances of shortcircuiting. You must be able to explain at the airport how your wheelchair/mobility aid can be fully deactivated. 
    • You must carry your spare batteries in the aircraft cabin, subject to a limit of 1 spare battery not exceeding 300Wh or 2 spare batteries not exceeding 160Wh each.
    • You must carry with you details of the Lithium Content (in grams) or the Watt-hour (Wh) capacity of your wheelchair’s/mobility device’s installed and spare batteries. Lithium batteries that do not contain clear markings of Lithium Content or Watt-hours (Wh) will not be accepted.

  • Infants below 2 years 

The following rules apply to infants and babies below 2 years of age:

  • Must be accompanied by a carer who is at least 15 years old and at least 16 years old if travelling on flights to/from Canada.
  • Must be seated on the accompanying adult’s lap, not an individual seat. 
  • Only 1 infant can sit on the accompanying adult’s lap. If you’re travelling with more than 1 infant, you must purchase a child fare and seat the other infant in an approved car seat. 
  • If you’re travelling with an infant, you cannot occupy an exit row seat. 
  • For safety reasons, lap infants cannot occupy their own Business Premier seat. However, you can book and share a Business Premier/Economy/Premium Economy seat with an infant (incl. a bassinet).
  • On domestic flights, infants can travel free of charge (without a ticket). On international flights, infant fares cost 10% of the accompanying adult’s fare.
  • If you’re travelling with a child, you can add them when booking your ticket online (or by phone) and on international flights, you must submit the child’s passport number.
  • Children between 2 and under 12 years 
    • Children who are older than 2 years must occupy their own seats and travel with a passenger who is at least 15 years old.
    • Child fares are:
      • The same as the adult fare within New Zealand, Tasman, and the Pacific.
      • 75% of the accompanying adult’s fare on long-haul international flights, but the same as the accompanying adult’s fares on long-haul flights originating in the United States and Canada.  
      • The same as adult fares if travelling on Business Premier Class.
  • Children who are 12 years and older must pay the adult fare.

    • Children below 5 years must travel with a passenger who is at least 16 years old.
    • Seat allocations for children below 14 years will be facilitated by the airport staff during check-in if this has already not been done. 
  • Bassinet seats are available on several flights. They are located in the front section of the Economy Cabin and can be attached to the wall for your child.
    • Your baby must fit safely in the bassinet.
    • Bassinet seats can be occupied by infants who are up to 8 months old and weigh up to 26lb/11.8kg.
    • Bassinets measure 73.66cm/29in in length and 34.29cm/13.5in in width.

In case of uncomplicated, single baby pregnancy, subject to clearance from your doctor/midwife, you can board flights:

  • Exceeding 4 hours up to the end of the 36th week.

For uncomplicated multiple pregnancies (twins), subject to clearance from your doctor/midwife, you can board flights:

  • Exceeding 4 hours up to the end of the 32nd week.

Pregnancy date proof

What are children’s fares like on Air New Zealand?

Long-haul child fares for children between 2 and 11 years accompanied by an adult passenger are 75% of the adult fare, but on Business Premier Class, the child fare is the same as the adult fare.

The fare for lap infants below 24 months travelling on an adult’s lap is 10% of the adult fare, as long as the infant remains below 24 months throughout the journey. For additional infants, child fares will apply.

Is there a fee for booking tickets online?

No, there is no service fee for booking online. However, you will be charged a service fee of NZD 60 per passenger per one-way trip if you book through an Air New Zealand contact center.

Is there a card payment fee when booking tickets?

If you pay by credit card, you will be charged NZD 22.60 per passenger per one-way trip for long-haul routes, and NZD 7.10 for bookings made within New Zealand. For bookings made in New Zealand, you will be charged a percentage-based fee depending on your credit/debit card.
