If TAP Portugal cancels or delays your flight 5 hours or more (on a confirmed ticket), you can:
- Travel on the alternative flight offered to you under similar travel conditions at no extra charge, or
- Travel at a later date to your destination under similar travel conditions without any extra charges (subject to seat availability), or
- Ask for a full refund of your ticket for the part of the trip not made and, if onward travel no longer serves any purpose, for the part/parts of the trip already made in which case you will also be entitled to a return flight to your first point of departure (as soon as it’s available)

Note. You will additionally be entitled to free overnight hotel accommodation and transportation from the airport to the hotel and back if an overnight stay is required. You may also be entitled to compensation (€250 – 600) if you were not informed of the cancellation at least 14 days before your flight’s scheduled departure and the reason for cancellation is within the airline’s control. No compensation will be due if you’re offered an alternative flight to your destination, unless that flight is delayed in which case the compensation will be reduced by 50%, depending on the length of the delay.

If you are prevented from travelling because of illness (even after starting your journey), TAP Airways may extend your ticket’s validity (incl. the ticket validity of the family members accompanying you) until you’re ready to travel, subject to:
- Availability of space in the same class of service originally booked by you
- The presentation of a valid hospital admission certificate

If your flight coupon/e-ticket comprises one or more than one stopover, the validity period of the ticket can be stretched by 3 months starting from the recovery date shown on the certificate.

In case of a passenger’s death, the person/persons accompanying the passenger can have their tickets modified by either getting the minimum stay period waived or getting the ticket’s validity period extended. If an immediate family member of a passenger dies after the passenger has commenced the journey, the validity period of the passenger’s ticket, as well as that of those (i.e., immediate family members) accompanying the passenger, will be modified by the airline. Any flight modification due to death is subject to the presentation of a valid death certificate and the extension period of the ticket shall not exceed 45 days after the date of the death.
