easyJet cancellation policy does not allow free cancellations in most cases because it is a low-cost carrier. All tickets can be cancelled and refunded for a fee within the free 24-hour window. Outside of this window, all tickets are non-refundable unless in case of severe illness or bereavement. If you’re not eligible to cancel your easyJet flight, changing your flight to travel later may be a better (and cheaper) option.

  • If you cancel your flight within 24 hours of booking (but no later than 2 hours before departure), you will receive a full refund minus a cancellation fee of £49 if you cancel online and £55 if you cancel through customer service. 
  • Even if you’re cancelling within the 24-hour grace period, you must cancel no later than 2 hours before the scheduled departure time of your first flight 
  • You can cancel your flight online or by phone through the customer services team. However, if you purchased your ticket through a travel agent, you must request them to cancel your ticket for you.
  • You’re allowed to cancel your ticket and obtain a refund (or a flight voucher valid for 6 months) due to serious or terminal illness, subject to a proper medical declaration, signed by a doctor (explained later).
  • You may be allowed to cancel and refund your ticket in case of bereavement, subject to the presentation of a Death Certificate and the fulfillment of certain conditions, as explained later. 
  • If your flight has been delayed by 5 hours or more, you can speak to ground crew or call Customer Services to:
    • Change your flight to a later date, subject to seat availability, or 
    • Cancel the delayed flight and apply for a full refund

easyJet Cancellation Policy Due to Illness

easyJet flight cancellation policy due to severe or terminal illness allows you to cancel and refund your ticket (or request a flight voucher) on the following conditions: 

  • You fill out a Medical Declaration document* with your doctor’s signature, and 
  • Submit the document through the Contact Us Form and complete the 3 sections below:
    • Section 1, by entering your name and booking information
    • Section 2, by selecting the Serious Illness option under Your Question and entering the names of the passengers on the booking who are unable to travel and the flights that need to be cancelled (or have been missed).
    • Section 3, by uploading the fully completed and signed Medical Declaration Document.

* If you’re unable to submit the document online, mail it to The Executive Support Team, easyJet Airline Company, Hangar 89, London Luton Airport, LU9 2PF.  

easyJet will review your case and if your request is approved, offer you either a refund or a flight voucher with a 6-month validity. 

easyJet Cancellation Policy Due to Bereavement 

In case of a bereavement in the family, you must immediately contact customer services team, apprise them of the bereavement, and provide adequate proof (such as a copy of the Death Certificate). 

Your case will be reviewed and you will be offered any of the following: 

  • A refund, or 
  • A fee waiver to change your flight and travel later, or 
  • A flight voucher to book another flight within the next 6 months

If your journey hasn’t yet begun, you can change your flight online via Manage My Booking. The change fee paid by you will be refunded after you submit the Death Certificate. To apply for the refund of the change fee, select the option Bereavement (Refund of Flight Change Fee) from the dropdown menu in the online Contact Us form and then attach a copy of the Death Certificate. When filling out the form, you’ll be asked to provide the following information:

  • The names of the passengers on the booking who are unable to travel 
  • The flight/flights you need to cancel or you’ve missed 
  • Whether the deceased is a non-passenger or passenger 
  • A copy of the Death Certificate 
  • Your phone number and email address

If you’re unable to submit the flight cancellation form online, send a letter with your booking reference number and the information above (incl. a copy of the Death Certificate) to the same address above. 

  • If your flight is cancelled or has been delayed, you can change your booking online through Manage Bookings.  
  • If you miss your easyJet flight and reach the airport within 2 hours after the scheduled departure time, you can pay a Rescue Fee of £110 (per passenger) at the airport and transfer to the next available flight.
  • If your easyJet flight is cancelled, you can:
    • Rebook yourself on another flight for free online through Manage Bookings or by phone. If no direct flights are available, you can rebook yourself on flights from nearby airports in the same country or indirect flights on easyJet’s network.
      OR 
    • Request a Voucher for the full value of your fare (online via Manage Bookings or by phone) and travel within 12 months from the issue date anywhere on easyJet’s network.

    • Request a full refund to your original form of payment (online via Manage Bookings or by phone). Refunds typically take 7 days but may take longer to reach your bank account. Online refund requests with easyJet can be tracked through this link
    • If you purchase your ticket from a travel agent/tour operator, ask them for assistance.
      • You can also manage your flight(s) directly through Manage Bookings, but before doing so, be sure to inform your travel agent about the changes you propose to make. 
      • If your travel agent is unable to help you, contact easyJet for assistance. 

easyJet Refund Policy

EasyJet refund policy allows you to request a refund for your ticket under certain circumstances. If easyJet cancels your flight and the alternative flight does not suit you, you are entitled to a full refund of the ticket price. Additionally, if you’re unable to travel due to extenuating circumstances such as severe illness or bereavement, you may be eligible for a refund (subject to documentary proof). 

However, the easyJet refund policy does have some restrictions and conditions. 

  • You can refund your flight even after checking in, provided you edit your booking at least 2 hours before departure and check in for your new flight after printing out your new boarding pass

easyJet cancelled flight compensation applies only to flights that fall under European Regulation (EC) No. 261/2004 that are cancelled due to reasons within easyJet’s control. 

The amount of cancelled flight compensation for eligible flights is:

  • The cause of your flight’s cancellation is due to extraordinary circumstances over which easyJet has no control, such as poor weather, air traffic control issues, strikes/civil unrest, terrorist acts, etc. 
  • You were notified of the cancellation:
    • At least 14 days before your flight’s scheduled departure time, or
    • 14 – 7 days before your flight’s scheduled departure time and offered an alternative flight that departs within 2 hours before the scheduled departure time and reaches your destination within 4 hours of the scheduled arrival time, or
    • Within 7 days of the scheduled departure time and are offered an alternative flight that departs within 1 hour before the scheduled departure time and reaches your destination within 2 hours after the scheduled arrival time 

Eligibility to claim compensation for cancelled easyjet flight

easyJet compensation for cancelled or delayed flights according to European Regulation (EC) No. 261/2004 applies to you if

  • Your open-to-public flight booking is confirmed on a flight operated by the airlines (UK, Europe Airline GmbH, or Switzerland S.A.) and
  • Your flight departs from:
    • An airport in an EU member state or the United Kingdom, or
    • A third-country airport to an airport in an EU member state to which the treaty applies or an airport in the UK, unless you will be receiving compensation or benefits and were assisted in that country, and
  • You had presented yourself with a confirmed booking for check-in and boarding before easyJet’s closing deadline or as notified by the airline (unless your flight was cancelled)

Note

  • You can also use the above form to submit a claim for delayed flights and involuntary boarding denials.

easyJet Refunds for Cancelled Flights

You can refund a cancelled flight for the full value of your ticket by submitting an online request via Manage Bookings or by phone. 

To cancel a ticket purchased through a tour operator or travel agent, you will need to contact them directly to cancel and refund your flight. If your travel agent is unable to provide the assistance you need, you can cancel your flight online via Manage Bookings (but you should inform the travel agent beforehand). 

Online refund processing time. Most easyJet online refund requests are processed within 7 business days but may take longer to reflect on your bank/credit card account.

Your Rights in Case of Overnight Flight Delays 

If your flight delay results in your having to depart the following day, easyJet’s ground crew will help provide overnight accommodation for you.

  • You must wait at the airport to be provided with your hotel and transportation details. 
  • easyJet will arrange for transportation between the airport and hotel and back if possible. 
  • If easyJet is unable to provide transportation, it will reimburse you for taxi, bus, or local metro service from the airport to the hotel and back, but will not pay for private limousines.
  • easyJet will arrange for an evening meal with the hotel where possible (excluding alcohol) plus breakfast. If the hotel is unable to provide food, you will be reimbursed the EUR/CHF equivalent of £25 per passenger per day. 
  • You must keep all your original receipts to claim your expenses. 

Denied Boarding

If you were denied boarding against your will despite having presented yourself for check-in and boarding on time, you may be entitled to certain rights and compensation.

Compensation for Delayed Flights and Boarding Denials 

If your flight was delayed so that it resulted in your arriving at least 3 hours after the scheduled arrival time of your original flight, or you were denied boarding against your will, you are entitled to a compensation of:

  • €250/£220 if your flight is within 1500km
  • €400/£350 if your flight is more than 1,500km within Europe or between 1500—3500km on other routes
  • €600/£520 if your flight is more than 3500km on other routes

The above compensation will be reduced by half if you’re provided an alternate flight that is scheduled to land at your destination:

  • No more than 2 hours after your original flight if the flight distance is up to 1500km
  • No more than 3 hours after your original flight if the flight distance is 1500—3500km within Europe 
  • No more than 4 hours after your original flight in case of other flights

Note. No compensation will be paid if the cause of your flight’s delay is extraordinary circumstances that are beyond the airline’s control. 

Right to Reimbursement or Re-routing

If your flight is cancelled or you’ve been denied boarding, you are also entitled to:

  1. Receive reimbursement for the cancelled flight, or
  2. Receive reimbursement for the part of the trip already made if your onward does not serve any purpose, plus a return flight to your original point of departure at the earliest possible, or
  3. An alternative flight under similar conditions to your destination at the earliest or at your convenience (subject to seat availability)

If your flight is delayed by more than 5 hours, you can choose not to travel by cancelling your ticket and applying for a full refund (as explained in point a above).

Right to Receive Care

If your flight is delayed by at least 3 hours (2 hours for flights of up to 1,500km) or cancelled, or you have been involuntarily denied boarding, you have the right to:

  1. Free refreshments and meals, depending on the waiting time 
  2. Free hotel accommodation and transport (if necessary) 
  3. 2 phone calls, emails, or fax messages
